I would definite recommend skirts. It's been pretty cold here for most of my time here so I've been in pants but everyone assures me here that it gets pretty hot in summer. I think shorts are maybe more acceptable here than maybe in other parts of Europe. I definitely stay in shorts all summer in Alabama as well! I was under the impression before coming to Spain that they dress a bit more elegantly than we do. That might the case in Madrid or something, but people here are pretty casual...stylish, but casual enough that I think a cute pair of shorts would be okay. But save some room in your suitcase because you'll have great shopping options here that are pretty affordable and definitely a more fun style than is normal in the states! Good luck!
